Ara [pronounced are-ah], are a family owned company who were founded in 1999. Their single vineyard estate is situated at the elevated end of the sunny and dry Wairau Valley, in Marlborough at the top of New Zealand's South Island. All their wine-growing activities are certified fully sustainable. Each plot has a unique soil and aspect to the sun, which allows their winemaking team ample scope to create individual wines. Ara means both “pathway” in the indigenous Maori language, and “alter” in Latin – they say that both definitions are compatible with their philosophy, capturing their adventurous spirit and echoing their deep respect for tradition and the environment. Ara's winemaking philosophy is to let their pure Marlborough fruit shine, recognising that each vintage is unique - when you taste their wine you taste the conditions in the vineyard, the climate, and the intensity of the fruit from that specific year. Capturing the best of Marlborough in every glass, Ara craft pure cool climate wines on the edge of the earth!
