A to Z was started in 2002 by wine veteran husband and wife teams Deb and Bill Hatcher, and Sam Tannahill and Cheryl Francis. These two couples worked in the Hatcher's kitchen to craft what was honoured by Food & Wine magazine as the best American Pinot Noir under 20 dollars. Having been Managing Director at Domaine Drouhin Oregon for 14 years, Bill knew a thing or two about Pinot Noir. A to Z welcomed more renowned wine talents to their team in 2006, and now has more collective wine-making experience than any other Oregon winery. Their Pinot Noir has twice been named on Spectator's Top 100 wines of the year list, and their Chardonnay is Oregon's top-selling Chardonnay. Named A to Z because their address book extends to working with over 100 vineyards throughout Oregon, and their component wines could therefore come from any place from A to Z. No surprise then to learn that A to Z are Oregon's top-selling wine brand and are not known as “The Essence of Oregon” for nothing!
