Achaval Ferrer was founded in 1998 in the Uco Valley of Mendoza by a group of Argentinian and Italian friends who had a shared passion in wine and a vision to produce world-class wine in Argentina, showcasing the country's soils and high altitude climate. The journey from the vineyard to the glass is what drives them and their philosophy is one of minimal intervention in both the vineyards and the winery and is founded on the concept of terroir, choosing vineyard sites that most perfectly express the varietal characteristics of the grapes. They concentrate solely on the production of red wines from ancient ungrafted vines, with high density planting deliberately managed to restrict yields, which deliver more concentrated fruit and complex wines. The wines are produced from four vineyard sites; Mirador [700 metres], Bellavista [980 metres], Finca Altamira [1050 metres], and Diamante [1100 metres].These wines are pure, intense expressions of the grapes with no clarification or filtration. These old vine, low yield wines are truly impressive, and Achaval Ferrer have become known for their superlative Malbec and outstanding Bordeaux inspired blends which represent some of the finest wines Argentina has to offer. They stress that above all Achaval Ferrer is a group of friends – and their original dream to make the best Argentine wine, year after year, has certainly become come a reality!
