Wine tasting notes

This wine is deep ruby red in colour, with violet hues. On the nose, it is complex, expressive and aromatic with notes of plum, raspberries, chocolate and a touch of leather. This wine offers a strong, well-structured palate and a long, elegant finish.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2013) - 87 pts

Aug 2015 - Luis Gutierrez - The 2013 Malbec Reserva is sourced from Vista Flores and Chacayes in the Valle de Uco where they look for calcareous soils on the alluvial terraces of the Arroyo Grande river. The wine matured in untoasted 3,500-liter oak foudres for 18 months. The wine has the bright red fruit and unnoticeable oak profile of the wines from Altos las Hormigas. It is very fresh and shinny in a vintage like 2013. There are raspberries, wild strawberries and red currants, with subtle spices and a medium-bodied palate with very fine tannins and great acidity that makes it really easy to drink and pleasant. Great Malbec at a very attractive price

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2014) - 90 pts

July 2017 - Stephen Tanzer - Bright ruby-red. Sexy pungency to the aromas of blackcurrant, mocha, licorice and sweet oak. A juicy, savory, nicely delineated midweight with a restrained sweetness and an impression of soil character. An element of minerality gives the finish noteworthy subtle salty persistence. Boasts more energy and definition than the Malbec Terroir and Clásico, with suaver tannins. There's nothing forced or over the top about this vinous Malbec. I like this style.

JancisRobinson.com (2009) - 17 pts

From Vista Flores. All own vines, densely planted. Microsite selection using GPS and electromagnetic imaging to see where the deeper soils are, where there's more clay. This is a blend of several microsites. Two days' cold maceration at 10 ºC. Aged 18 months in tight-grain Fench oak (50% new). Already has more chalky finesse on the nose. Slightly smoky/reduced dark fruit and some sweet oak spice. Some sweet vanilla on the palate, fresh mulberry fruit and a light touch of scented violets but those fine tannins are its hallmark and it has excellent length. Lots of sweet oak spice. It's the texture and the freshness that mark it out. Lovely tension and energy and great length. Drink now- 2018.

Wine Spectator (2013) - 89 pts

Web Only 2015 - Lush and fruity, with concentrated crushed red plum and macerated dark cherry flavors. Dark currant and baker's chocolate accents linger on the dense, rich finish. Drink now through 2019.

Wine Enthusiast (2008) - 90 pts

On the oaky side, with toasty aromas of stacked wood, smoke and black fruits lurking below the surface. The palate has the typical piercing juiciness of the 2008 vintage, with bursting flavors of pie cherry and raspberry. Minty and oaky on the finish, with snappy finishing acidity. Drink now through 2012. — M.S. (5/1/2011)
