Wine tasting notes

The first wine of Edmond de Rothschild, Château Clarke epitomises the attention to detail shown in all they do. Merlot-led, the silky tannins, perfect structure and decadent complexity make this a must-try Bordeaux.

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2016) - 16.5 pts

Scented with black fruit and pencil shavings. Very inviting. Dark-fruited and a touch of savoury char on the palate. Firm and smooth. (JH)

James Suckling (2016) - 92 pts

Currant and cherry aromas are underlined with iron and rust. Medium-to full-bodied, firm and chewy yet polished and poised. Tension and style at the end. A blend of 70 per cent merlot and 30 per cent cabernet sauvignon. Better in 2022.

Decanter (2016) - 93 pts

This is excellent, really feels much deeper, richer and more deeply textured in its fruit expression than any others in the line-up. Intense cassis and bilberry flavours, and although this is still Merlot dominant in the blend, the Médoc character of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the tannic frame is clear. New technical director, Fabrice Darmaillacq, as of this 2016 vintage.
