Cave des Vignerons de Saumur

The Cave Des Vignerons de Saumur were originally a cooperative, founded in 1957 when a group of around 40 winegrowers banded together in the face of economic difficulties. Pooling their dreams and ambitions they bought a site in Saumur Champigny, right on top of the Saint Cyr en Bourg hill, in the centre of the Loire Valley. Today 150 members work 1,800 hectares, and they now have a new identity which has been developed by the French marketing and communication consultancy Sowine. The new commercial name of the cave is Robert et Marcel – the name honours two of the original founders, Robert and Marcel Neau. In 2017 Robert et Marcel joined forces with the Bourgueil Cooperative Cellar which was founded in 1931. All the winegrowers are committed to an environmental approach and the cooperative has been awarded the AgriConfiance eco-label [a cooperative system based on the principles of fairness and social unity which takes the whole production chain into account, promoting a social and sustainable economy] for all its member's vineyards. A range sparkling Crémants de Loire and still white, rosé and red wines are produced which are aged in their 10 kilometre long tuffeau underground galleries.
