Wine tasting notes

Aromas of damson liqueur, mulberry, fine herbs, crème de mûre and wonderfully perfumed fruit emerge from the bouquet. The palate is fleshy, with fine mineral infused dark cherry fruit and morello cherries; it is sweet and engaging and subtly long. In fact, the tannic quality is quite exceptional; clear, unbridled, haunting flavours linger, suggesting that this is grander than first impressions suggest. A very beautiful Montrose.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 95 pts

The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Montrose opens with broody black fruits, menthol and anise notes with a core of cassis, blueberries and mulberries plus a touch of cedar chest. The medium-bodied mouth is firm and chewy with a good core of muscular fruit and a long, earthy finish.

JancisRobinson.com (2015) - 16.5 pts

67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc. Mid to dark crimson. Round and evolved and even rather soft! Very unlike later vintages. Should mature quite early.

James Suckling (2015) - 98 pts

Intensity and clarity of fruit is so insane. Blackberries, spices such as cloves, blueberries, sandalwood and dried lavender. Full body and such a beautiful, dense center palate with perfectly polished tannins. Extremely long and beautiful. One of the best young Montroses in a long, long time. Drink in 2024.
