Domaine Roux

The domaine was founded in 1885 by Louis Roux, with just 4 hectares in the village of Saint-Aubin, at the southern end of the Côte d'Or, in the heart of Burgundy. His grandson Marcel acquired more vineyards, extending the holdings to 25 hectares in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Santenay. Thus reputation of the domaine grew. Marcel's three sons, Christian, Régis and Emmanuel joined him and developed the domaine in the appellations of the Côte de Beaune in Aloxe-Corton, Beaune and Ladoix, in the Côte Chalonnaise Rully and Mercurey, and in the Côte de de Nuits in Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot and Chambolle-Musigny. Mathieu (the winemaker) and Sébastien (in charge of the business side), the fifth generation of the Roux family, joined the business in 2003. They focus on reviving forgotten lieux-dits, and have acquired more vineyard parcels in Meursault, Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet. Roux now own 70 hectares of vineyards across the region and are one of the largest independent domaines in Burgundy. They practices lutte raisonnée, or the “reasoned struggle” in the vineyards (a practice which uses chemicals less often and less aggressively, and only when absolutely necessary). A comprehensive range of wines are produced from Bourgogne through to Grand Cru, featuring elegant Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.
