Domaine Thomas

The domaine has been in the family since the 1670's and, now 9th and 10th generation, Jean and Ginette Thomas, along with their son Julien and his partner Justine run the family business. The estate is located in the village of Verdigny in Sancerre, in the eastern part of the Loire Valley. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are cultivated with some vineyards in Verdigny, where the soils consist of the limestone pebbles known as caillottes, with pockets of Terre Blanches, whilst other are near the border with Pouilly-Fumé, planted on the esteemed flinty silex soil. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and, in a region where cultivated yeast fermentations are the norm, Domaine Thomas use wild yeast fermentation and practice extended ageing on the lees. These are racy, flinty and mineral wines – bring on the goats cheese!
