Azienda Vitivinicola Duemani was founded by Elena Celli and Luca d'Attoma, a renowned Tuscan wine consultant, one of the most famous oenologists in Italy. In fact he was the consultant oenologist to Tua Rita, who produced Redigaffi, the first Italian wine to receive a 100 point score from Robert Parker! Luca also consulted for Le Macchiole for over 25 years, and during his time he created the Messorio Merlot and Paleo Syrah, two of Italy's most famous wines. Elena and Luca's vision was to make their own wine from their favourite grape varieties, and so in the mid-1990's they embarked on finding a suitable location for their dream to become a reality. They found it in the north Bolgheri hills, and purchased 7 hectares of untamed land. Their estate is in Riparbella, in the Maremma region of Tuscany, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, and here the unique climate and soils are perfect for cultivating the red grape varieties that Elena and Luca loved; Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot. From the inception they wanted to farm organically and biodynamically, and it took a few years to prepare the soil, with the first vines being planted in 2001. They are certified organic from BioAgriCert and biodynamic from Demeter. The vines are planted at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level on mainly clayish soils with lots of stones, and now 12 hectares are under vine from which five wines are produced. “Duemani” means “Two Hands”, and it is due to Elena's and Luca's hands, through their great effort and determination that they succeed in creating exceptional handcrafted original and exclusive wines. They use native yeasts for spontaneous fermentation, and the wines are fermented and aged in either amphora, cement or large conical French oak barrels. These wines are rich in aromas and flavours with great purity and complexity, and possess exceptionally long cellaring potential. The exquisite labels are undeniably as chic as their wines, which can easily stand beside any of the top-flight Super Tuscan's!
