Wine tasting notes

Aspect: An intense, glittering crimson with a purple tint. Nose: The powerful, very intense and fruit-forward nose reveals a mixture of red and black berry fruit aromas, mingled with spicy notes of black pepper and subtle touches of vanilla, caramel and mocha. Palate: From a powerful and complex attack, the medium-bodied mid-palate is underpinned by very mature tannins. With good substance and balanced acidity, it reveals wild berry flavours, especially blackberry and bilberry. Ripe fruit notes linger on the palate, together with a return of the spice notes found on the nose, while toasted hazelnut and roast coffee-bean flavours complete the long, rich and well-balanced finish, underpinned by elegant tannins.

Food matching

Glazed duck breast with spices and Sichuan pepper, braised shoulder of lamb. Serving temperature: 16 - 17° C

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2018) - 16 pts

Intense cassis-led nose with tobacco and subtle leather notes. Rounded, silky and glossy mouthfeel with ripe sweet dark fruits and moderate acidity alongside succulent tannins. A ripe style with bags of dark fruit and a medium finish. Needs a little time to come together, but good value. (AC)

James Suckling (2018) - 93 pts

A vivid red with hints of blackcurrants, sweet tobacco and nutmeg on the nose. Full body and polished tannins with linear mouthfeel and drive. A blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon and carmenere with syrah, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Racy for the price. Drink now or hold.

Decanter (2018) - 93 pts

A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Carmenere, 20% Syrah and 2% Cabernet Franc, half of which is aged in second use French oak for 12 months. Deep aromas of cassis, mint, chocolate and spice, with a savoury/balsamic base note. Fine tannins offer a precise framework to the layered flavours of the generous palate: lush blackberry, plum and cherry fruit, spice notes and roasted coffee hints. Great value for the price.
