Paolo Scavino

Paolo Scavino was founded in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo in Castiglione Falletto in the province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy – this is Barolo country! The estate remains family owned, now in its fourth generation, run today by Enrico Scavino and his daughters Enrica, who concentrates on the marketing, and Elisa who is hands on in the winery and vineyard. Enrico began working in the family winery in 1951 – he was only 10 years old! But he had a dedication and passion for his land, and over the years invested in important cru to showcase the uniqueness of each vineyard site. Enrico modernised the cellar, one of the first in the region to install temperature-controlled winemaking and storage facilities. Today 30 hectares are under vine in the Barolo region, with parcels in 20 different cru vineyards spread though eight of the 11 Barolo communes in Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d'Alba, Verduno, Roddi and Monte d'Alba. At Paolo Scavino the wines are made with great attention to detail in a modern style, with short macerations, rotary fermenters and French oak for ageing. These are polished wines, with wonderful purity of expression, complexity and elegance.
