Wine tasting notes

No.11 displays a light, bright straw colour with a green hue which is a sign of youth. The aroma is very youthful with citrus and white peach characters and some subtle oak. The crisp flavours from the full of vibrant varietal characters, give way to a wine with great mid-palate softness. The integrated oak adds texture to deliver a fineness that is long and clean.

Expert reviews

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2012) - 90 pts

July 2014 - Light yellow. Mineral-tinged orange, melon and nectarine scents show very good clarity and a hint of ginger. Racy and focused on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering pliant orchard and pit fruit flavors braced by zesty minerality. Finishes juicy and long, with subtle smokiness and a touch of citrus pith.-- Josh Raynolds

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 16 pts

Tasted Sept 2015 - Almost water white. Sweet start but cool and refreshing in a vegy green-fruited sort of way. Lacks the precision and conviction of the finest but it’s perfectly respectable.

James Halliday (2015) - 95 pts

From three vineyard blocks, vinified separately, whole bunch-pressed, completing wild fermentation in French oak , mlf, matured for 10 months with regular lees stirring. Philip Shaw has been making chardonnay since Adam was a boy, and his experience blazes through this super-elegant wine. It combines juicy white peach fruit with a garnish of grapefruit, oak relegated to a purely functional role, not a decorative one.

Wine Front (2013) - 91 pts

Nice wine all up. Combines coolness with richness of flavour to very good effect. Nectarine, preserved lemon, subdued cedar oak, spice and cashew. It’s a gentle style, slightly slippery and lacking in focus, but good to drink: not too confronting. Some creamy cashew flavours mingle with green olive, subtle acidity and a bit of flint and buttered peach and toast in the finish. Ready to drink now.
