Product Notes

Rhys Vineyards Porcupine Hill Pinot Noir is a luxurious American wine that offers an enticing fusion of tasteful complexity and remarkable consistency. Renowned for its vibrant ruby hue, it charms the palate with an intricate amalgamation of flavours, resonating with dark cherry, blackberry, and exotic spices. A subtle trace of earthy undertones adds depth whilst its firm tannins guarantee an impressive finish. This wine's balanced acidity augments its rounded texture, making it exceptionally enjoyable. An ideal accompaniment for hearty meals, it exudes quality and sophistication. Rhys Vineyards brilliantly captures the essence of the California terroir with this exemplary Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

Porcupine Hill represents a specific high performing block from the Rhys Bearwallow vineyard up in the Anderson Valley. There is essentially no new wood on this cuvee, and just 8-10% whole cluster fermentation. The spice and earth notes combine with dark berry and wild flowers and this deep, resonant Pinot Noir. There is a concentration here, though not at the sacrifice of deftness as polished dark earth notes mingle with sweet black berries. The finish betrays that Bearwallow sting that the vineyard is known for, this fascinating textural peacocks tail that gives a piquantly mineral shape to the finish.

About the Winery

Rhys Vineyards

Nestled in the panoramic landscapes just south of San Francisco, Rhys Vineyards is a delightful gem in the heart of California's wine country. Known for producing some of the most delectable and admired wines in the world, this vineyard is a must-visit for any wine aficionado.

Sprawling over a 150-acre expanse Rhys Vineyards is privy to the unique microclimate of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This particular environment caters immensely to the vineyard's specialty- burgundy wines. With 6 different vineyards, each growing a select variety of grapes, Rhys capitalises on the diverse terrains and soils they have access to: from swampland to steep, rocky hillsides.

What sets Rhys Vineyards apart is the meticulous crafting of their wines. Utmost care is taken right from the plantation, with all vines being grown and nurtured meticulously from seedlings, Each vine growing on the estate is expected to have a productive lifespan of up to 50 years, lending to the deep, intense flavours that Rhys wines are renowned for.

Particular care is taken in the fermentation process as well. All Rhys wines are fermented using native yeasts and natural bacteria. This reflects their belief in allowing the vineyards and grapes to truly express their character, without the hindrance of artificial interventions.

As part of the Rhys Vineyards experience, a visit to their tasting room is a necessity. An immersive experience, guests are invited to sample a selection of their latest vintages alongside some beautifully paired small bites.

From their passionately crafted wines to their picturesque setting amidst the mountains, Rhys Vineyards offers an unparalleled wine tasting affair that is both intimate and inspiring. It's more than just a vineyard, it's a testament to the art of winemaking that, you simply can't afford to miss.
