Roccolo Grassi

Roccolo Grassi is a real family affair. It was founded in 1996 by Bruno Sartori, with his son Marco and daughter Francesca, who now run the business. Marco is the winemaker and the quality of his wines has quickly earned him a reputation as a world-class producer, frequently wining the coveted Tre Bicchieri award in the Gamberro Rosso. The name refers to the estate's most prized vineyard, which is called Roccolo Grassi. They are located in the Val di Mezzane in the province of Verona in north-east Italy, between the hills of Valpolicella and the plains of Soave, and wines from these DOCG's and DOC's are their speciality. 15 hectares are under vine, planted at between 200 and 300 metres above sea level. The soils are volcanic, which imbues the wines with freshness and vitality. The Roccolo Grassi philosophy is to allow each vine to express its character and origin and the vineyards are meticulously managed, with diligent pruning to ensure low yields of high quality grapes with fabulous fruit concentration. Production is therefore limited but results in a small range of passionately crafted Valpolicella, Amarone, Soave and Soave Recioto wines with unique personalities.
