Wine tasting notes

An exquisitely balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. Its spicy and fruity character is outstanding. The intense ruby red color anticipates a complex, appealing wine. On the nose, the freshness of the red fruit and the herbal notes like freshly cut grass complements the spicy notes of black pepper, clove and cinnamon, as well cedar and tobacco. Great freshness on the palate, good acidity, sweet tannins and great intensity for a very well-integrated wine with a persistent finish.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 89 pts

The 2015 Felino Cabernet Sauvignon mixes fruit from Luján de Cuyo with some 25% from the Valle de Uco. It fermented in stainless steel tanks with full natural malolactic. Ten percent of the wine matured in new American oak barrels and was bottled one year after the harvest. This is very fruit-driven, fresh and clean, with very little influence from the oak, very drinkable and fresh. There's good purity of fruit, very fine tannins and a soft texture, avoiding any over-ripeness without sacrificing depth. I was impressed. They are picking slightly earlier and using oak more judiciously.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2015) - 87 pts

Moderately saturated medium red. Mellow aromas of redcurrant, currant, tobacco, licorice and spices. At once supple and juicy, with flavors similar to the aromas. Not a particularly dense Cabernet but harmonious acidity gives this slightly sweet midweight good definition and life, not to mention early drinkability. Finishes with a smooth dusting of tannins, a lightly herbal quality and good grip.

JancisRobinson.com (2011) - 15.5 pts

Tasted Sept '12 - Mid ruby. Hint of upholstery webbing. Thick and sweet and far from sophisticated but quite fun. Tarry finish and overall not heavy. I’d be happy to find this in a provincial hotel; cross if I’d ordered it to go with the three-star feast.

Wine Spectator (2016) - 87 pts

Taut, with muscular acidity behind the dried berry and currant flavors, featuring notes of green herbs and olive.

James Suckling (2016) - 92 pts

A fresh and aromatic red with blackcurrant, fresh flower and light stem character. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a crisp finish.

Wine Enthusiast (2014) - 88 pts

Cedary oak, tobacco, wood spice and black-fruit aromas are on the heavy side. The palate follows that lead with a chunky bumpy feel. Pushy black-fruit flavors come with chocolate and herbal notes, while this tastes of chocolate mint and feels scratchy and tannic on the finish.

Natalie McLean (2013) - 90 pts

This Argentine red wine is rich, inviting and layered, like great conversation. Redolent of blackberry and plum with some dark spice on the finish. A prime candidate for grilled steaks, or roast leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary. finishes with mocha and dark chocolate from generous oak aging.
