Wine tasting notes

This wine is deep ruby-red in colour. The nose is perfumed and complex with aromas of ripe red fruits over subtle notes of crème de cassis, sweet spices and candied fruits. The palate is smooth but structured, with silky tannins and notes of tobacco, caramel and vanilla from the time spent in oak.

Food matching

This wine, like most Chilean Cabernet Sauvignons, makes an excellent wine for an informal dinner party or a drinks party, though you can also dress it up a notch – it is in fact a definitive “smart-casual wine”. It will enhance most red meats in most European-style preparations: beef, sausages, duck; stews, barbecues, roasts. It will also work with most cheeses. Things to avoid: most fish (though it can work with tuna), creamy sauces, anything too spicy or salty.

The 2013 Alpha M is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot from vines planted on granite slopes in Apalta in Colchagua in the early 1990s. It fermented after a one-week cold soak and matured in new French oak barrels for 18 months. It has very good freshness and elegance, with good natural acidity and nicely integrated oak in the shape of spices and just a smoky twist. There is bright fruit here, fine-grained tannins and a refreshing sensation.


Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2012) - 93 pts

Saturated ruby. Powerful, spice- and smoke-accented dark berry, vanilla and floral pastille scents, along with hints of allspice and mocha. Velvety and seamless in texture, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, cherry-vanilla and fruitcake flavors and a suggestion of sweet chewing tobacco. A suave, supple wine that finishes with excellent clarity, spicy lift and just a hint of fine-grained tannins.

Tasted Oct 2013 - Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc too. They halved water per plant which meant higher concentration and more sustainability. Dark crimson. Complex and grown up on the nose. Deep flavoured and dry on the finish (not sweet but with nice bright tannins). Broad and savoury. Sweet finish. Really vibrant with savour. Long and very friendly. Arguably brighter than even than the Don Melchor.

A lithe red, featuring a rich current of hot stone and roasted plum flavors, accented by notes of slate and Asian spice. The lively finish is loaded with mineral and white pepper accents. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

A top red that shows wonderful blackcurrants, spices, fresh tobacco, and light chocolate. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a beautiful finish. So linear and refined, yet muscular and long. Needs time to show its true outstanding quality. A superb wine. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc, 5% merlot and 5% petit verdot. From grapes grown in the Apalta subregion. Drink or hold.

Subtle, alluring aromas of earth, cola, eucalyptus, fallen leaves, black cherry and cassis properly announce this saturated, well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend.
