Waterford

Waterford was established in 1998 by Jeremy and Leigh Ord, with Cellar Master Kevin Arnold being a Managing Partner since inception. They are nested in the scenic Blaauwklippen Valley, just south-west of Stellenbosch, bordered by the Hottentots-Holland Mountains. They bought the virgin land from Stellenrust and started the venture from scratch, opening in 2000. At Waterford they believe that “less is more”, and only half of the 120 hectare estate is under vine in order to protect the natural flora and fauna. They are passionate about and committed to the environment. They farm sustainably and are members of the Biodiversity in Wine Initiative (BWI), and the Porto Protocol, they have Ethical Trade Association (WIETA) accreditation and are also one of 37 wine brands with WWF Conservation Champion status. The winery is built in a charming terracotta design and, with the gardens featuring old citrus groves and fragrant lavender and rosemary beds, the property is evocative of a Mediterranean estate; here you could be in a Tuscan villa! The centrepiece of the courtyard is a beautiful fountain, which has been immortalised on every one of Waterford's wine labels. The exuberance of the gushing fountain symbolises “The Waterford Way”, which honours prosperity, celebrates life, food and wine, and loves family and friends with passion. Waterford's diverse portfolio of wines is impressive. The Waterford range produces terroir-specific wines from grapes sourced from Elgin, South Africa's coolest wine region. Pecan Stream are fruity, easy-drinking yet classy wines. The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is pure and rich, reminiscent of a great Bordeaux. Waterford Estate Single Vineyard wines are beautifully structured, the Chardonnay for this range was planted in 1988, making it one of the oldest Chardonnay vineyards in the country, and the Grenache Noir is a savoury, extremely classic wine. Each vintage of the Kevin Arnold Shiraz is dedicated to one of the Ord or Arnold families’ children, a concentrated red and dark fruit beauty kissed with spice. Warwick's flagship wine is The Jem, named after the founder Jeremy “Jem” Ord, a masterful blend of different red grape varieties that collectively represent the best of the vintage and express the diversity of their soils. Waterford have something for everyone and every occasion - try The Waterford Way!
