Wine tasting notes

Bright, golden-green hues straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has a very elegant and pure, fresh nose of ripe yellow stonefruits, revealing subtle nuances of nutty oak and flinty lees elements with some MLF. The aromatics are tightly held, but build in intensity in the glass. Medium-bodied and elegant in presentation, lively and sweet flavours of citrus and stonefruits form a tightly bound amalgam on palate. This has acid drive which carries a fine, textured line to a dry, lingering finish with nutty and miinerally notes. This is an elegant, fresh and subtly sweet-fruited Chardonnay with fine textures and a lingering finish.

Palliser Estate

Palliser have their estate in Martinborough, in the Wellington region of New Zealand’s North Island. At a time when everyone else looked at the land around and thought “this’ll be a good place to graze sheep”, they thought “No. This’ll be a great place to make wine”. They thought lamb chops are good but wouldn’t you rather have a glass of award-winning wine? They harvested their first grapes in 1989, and now over 30 years later they are one of New Zealand’s premier wine.. read more

Wine Front (2013)87 pts

Juicy pineapple and stone fruit, light spice and cedar wood. Intense flavour, almost a cumquat and apricot richness, nuts and butter, some spice and orange acidity to close. Some sweetness. A bit flat. Solid wine.

Raymond Chan (2015)17.5 pts

Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-gold hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is fresh and very fine in proportion, being tightly concentrated with aromas of white stonefruits entwined with flinty lees and reductive complexities. Subtle nutty oak and minerally elements add detail. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly bound with flavours of white stonefruits, white florals, citrus and gunflint, unfolding nutty and mineral elements. The mouthfeel is bright, crisp and refreshing with lacy acidity providing good tension as the wine follows a very fine textured line. The palate carries to an elegant, lingering finish of white stonefruits and flinty minerals. This is a refreshing, finely concentrated Chardonnay with flavours of white stonefruits complexed by flint and mineral notes. Match with seafood and white meat dishes over the next 3-4 years.
