Villa Maria

It is not easy to tell your Dad that you are quitting a career in carpentry to try your hand at making wine. But in 1961, at the age of 21, that's exactly what Sir George Fistonich did. Pungent aromas of passion fruit and gooseberry leave no mystery as to the variety here. Citrus fruits, also, with freshly squeezed lime and lemon, along with a light herbaceous nuance. Light on the fizz, with plenty of flavor across the board and a fresh finish with hints of citrus, passion fruit and other tropical fruits. Drink now.

Smells super herbal and gently sweet, a pretty, fun-loving start to a wine that suggests it’s for rapid consumption and little consideration and does that kind of well. Sweetness to taste, light and frothy, clean and short. Delivers on sauvignon with a touch of fizz; fun times, any time wine feel.

The 2013 vintage (3.5*) is a 'frizzante' (lightly sparkling) wine, freshly scented, with lively, gently sweet flavours, light, crisp and racy.

Vinification Notes

Fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards across the Marlborough region in the Wairau and Awatere valleys spanning a range of different meso-climates. Careful attention was paid to vine health and cropping levels to give the vine the best chance to optimise the season and develop strong, clean flavours. The 2013 vintage was warm and dry and fruit was harvested in pristine condition. This wine was gently infused with a fine bead of bubbles before bottling.
