Wine tasting notes

The wine has a deep and intense ruby red colour. The nose reveals lots of red berries and sweet black currents, complemented by sweet vanilla and chocolate oak background and pleasant herbal undertones. The smooth, ripe, round tannins make this wine easy to drink while still retaining a full body. The balanced acid creates a firm finish that is complemented by a lingering sweetness. Although accessible now this wine will improve with careful ageing over the next 3 years.

Expert Reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2012)86 pts #215 Oct 2014. Reviewer : Neal Martin. The 2012 The First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon, which is matured over 18 months in second-, third- and fourth-fill French oak barrels, has a slightly dusty bouquet with broody, earthy black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with savory black fruit, but it is missing some freshness on the espresso-tinged finish that cuts away abruptly.

June 2015 - (100% Cabernet Sauvignon; aged for 18 months in old French oak): Good full, bright red. Red plum, raspberry and currant aromas along with mint, menthol and fresh herbs on the nose and palate, with floral and peppery nuances providing lift. Juicy and bright, with a touch of sweetness countered by bright acidity. Finishes with refined tannins, darker fruit notes and lovely length. -- Stephen Tanzer (2014)16 pts

Tasted May 2017 - Melania's wine? Fairly light garnet. Firm and something mineral on the nose. Lots of fruit and then freshness. Just a hint of something bovine about the flavour of this wine. Tannins still definitely present. Sweet start and then there's acidity too. But there is more character than you might expect for the money.

June 30, 2014 - Soft, with mint and cocoa notes leading the slightly mulled plum and black cherry fruit. The mint accent lingers through the finish.

John Platter (2014)3.5 stars

Judiciously oaked 2014 has it all: cassis fruit, spice & tobacco notes, good tannic grip. Nudges next level with understated presence.

Vinification Notes

Aged for 18 months in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels.
