Champagne Blend

Champagne Blend- This refers to the permitted grapes allowed during the production of Champagne, which include: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Petit Meslier and Arbane. In the past, records show that a variety of other grapes were also used. However, in practice just three of the seven grapes are used extensively, namely: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Each grape adds something different to the blend, and it is the job of the wine maker to combine them judiciously in order to create a successful cuvée. ‘Blanc de blanc’ is a term that means ‘white of whites’, in French, this is used to describe a champagne made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape. ‘Blanc de Noir’, translates literally as ‘white of blacks’, the wine will be a blend of the red grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
