Food Matching

A great match for a range of robust and deeply flavoured foods. Master Sommelier Vincent Gasnier, in his excellent book How to Choose Wine claims that its perfect partner is roast rack of lamb with herbs. Malcolm Gluck and Mark Hix, in their book The Simple Art of Marrying Food and Wine, suggest a caramelised onion and goat's cheese tart - perfect for vegetarians! Try it with hearty stews, game and roasts, but avoid fish, shellfish and creamy sauces. It works well with cheese and is an interesting choice for a barbecue.

Wine tasting notes

Ruby red color, leaning to dark, intense red. Powerful, but with elegant flavors of plum and blackberry. A lovely butterscotch and slight spiciness is well integrated with subtle notes of vanilla from the oak ageing. A full-bodied wine, with ripe tannins and voluptuous mid-palate and a long, very enjoyable, finish.

eRobertParker.com # 204. Dec 2012. Reviewer : Neal Martin - The 2011 Montes Classic Malbec comes from nearly 100-year old vines in the Colchagua valley and is aged in French oak for six months. It has ripe dark cherry and creme de cassis on the nose while the palate offers ripe, chewy, dark cherry and bilberry fruit encased in fine tannins and a pure vanilla-y finish that is satisfying. Drink now-2016.

Vinification Notes

The wine is 100% Malbec and has been aged for six months in new and used American oak.
