Wine tasting notes

Golden yellow with coppery highlights. Peach, apricot, pineapple and tropical fruit aromas. On the palate, good weight and suppleness of fruit, with toasty nuances from the oak well-integrated into the overall complexity. The wine displays exceptional balance, a lively, complementary acidity and a long, lingering finish.

Winery Information

Felsina Berardenga

Felsina epitomizes the powerful style of southern Chianti, where the wines are stylistically more akin to those from Montalcino than to their fellow Chiantis like Fontodi or Isole e Olena. Giuseppe Mazzocolin ran the estate from the end of the 1970?s until 2011. He is now less involved in the day to day management, but consultant enologist Franco Bernabei is still very much at the helm of the winemaking team. Franco is also consultant to Selvapiana in Chianti Rufina, and Fontodi in Chianti.. read more

Vinification Notes

After rigorous selection, the clusters were subjected to a natural drying process on mats, until January/February of the following year. They were then de-stemmed and pressed. The must was transferred to sealed, 100 litre oak casks containing the "mother", the gelatinous remnant of previous vintages. After seven years in the "vinsantaia" loft area, the wine was bottle-aged for six months before release.
