Wine tasting notes

Deep Ruby. Aromas of vibrant ripe red fruit imbued with hints of violets together with subtle earthy and smokey nuances supplemented by spicy oak savouriness. Richly flavoured with intense red fruits, well balanced subtle sweetness and spicy well integrated oak leading to a delicate lingering soft finish.

Feb 2018 - Joe Czerwinski - Aged in 40% new French oak, Dog Point's 2015 Pinot Noir is a pristine model of contained power. The cedary notes frame cola and black cherry fruit and channel it down the center of the fairway, a textbook drive designed to set up the second shot. That is to say, better things lay ahead for this medium-bodied wine, once it begins to evolve, loosen the shackles and spread out across the palate a bit. Give it a couple of years, then enjoy its silky-textured charms over the next 5-8 years.

Medium red. Aromas of raspberry, red licorice, menthol and sweet oak. Plenty of texture here but still tightly wound and a bit medicinal, conveying a suggestion of stems. Serious dusty tannins keep the wine under wraps. Not a giving or particularly sweet Pinot but has structure to age. Will it blossom and gain in sweetness, and absorb its oak? Certainly less generous than the 2012 version. -- Stephen Tanzer (2014)17 pts

Tasted Jan 2017 - Lively crimson. Real fan of flavours on the nose – unusual in this context. Very bright Marlborough signature on the palate – another wine that really succeeds within the Marlborough idiom. Very slight coffee note on the end. But long and impressive.

Oct 2016 - Elegant, plush, plump plum and black cherry flavors are accented by black tea, spice and licorice notes. Gains momentum on the finish, where shadings of cedar and date bread add another level of richness. Drink now through 2026.

Impressive red-cherry aromas precede great depth and structured, handy tannins that pull real flavors out of the wine and coat the palate. This holds fresh and rich darker cherries and red plums long into the finish. Regal pinot with soul and swagger. Drink now to 2025.

A fine effort from the Sutherland-Healy partnership behind the label, this is silky and crisp, with bright hints of cherry highlighting darker notes of cola and plum. Vanilla and cedar notes frame the medium-bodied fruit without being overbearing in the least.

Nov 2017 - Wonderful Marlborough Pinot Noir of depth and intensity. Medium to full bodied, thick and chocolaty with hazelnut, and plum, and plum skin tannin, a slight but lovely regional herbal bitterness – like chinotto – concentration and dark chocolate on a very long finish. It’s the wine equivalent of settling into a dark coloured bean bag, and enjoying the show. That grainy tannin. So good. Come along for the ride.
