Wine tasting notes

Ripe and fragrant, with an expressive bouquet that releases beautiful aromas of apple sauce, enhanced with notes of vanilla. On the palate, the attack is refined with a broad range of fruit and a beautifully fresh finish. The rich fig and red apple fruits create a compelling contrast with crisp acidity and tight grapefruit and lemon notes. Three years on lees makes for generous maturity, reinforcing honey and fruit cake spice and a deliciously creamy texture.

Expert Reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (NV)92 pts

Oct 2012 = Geoffroy’s NV Brut Premier Cru Expression is totally alive in the glass. Vibrant and delineated, the Expression bursts from glass with dried pears, flowers, almonds and Chamomile. A blend of 47% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay, the Expression is all about texture and volume from the red grapes, which give tons of richness without detracting from the wine’s essential energy, tension and pure drive. A crystalline, layered finish rounds things out beautifully. This is a great showing from a wine loaded with class.

May 2015 - Very pale. Very fruity and bumptious. Masses of personality. Neat, dry finish.

Wine Spectator (NV)92 pts

Oct 2015 - Bright and elegant, this well-knit, aperitif-style Champagne offers lively acidity and a fine bead, with floral overtones and a focused palate of poached pear, chalk, candied kumquat and passion fruit. Saline-tinged finish.

James Suckling (NV)92 pts

Oct 2016 - This has a bright rose-hip and pink-fruit nose with a gently chalky edge. The palate has beautiful strawberry fruits and is really fresh and focused. Great finesse here. Polished tannins. Rich and pure. Drink now. A blend of 2010 and 2011: 50% meunier, 40% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay.

Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy blends this wine from parcels in Cumieres and Hautvillers, including Pinot Meunier (50 perfecnt) and Pinot Noir with a small addition of Chardonnay. It's the best release of Expression we've tasted in some time, with the kind of pale white flavor of mushrooms and chalk that you might get from a dry Manzanilla, balancing freshness with the oxidative chracter of barrel-aged wines. It's earthy and tense, a powerful evocation of the Marne Valley soils.
