Wine tasting notes

Beautifully floral with hints of violets, eucalyptus and mint as well as lifted blackcurrant fruit. On the palate, superconcentrated layers of brambly-fruit, showing also appealing nuances of mocha and chocolate, all held together by fine spicy tannins. Typical Dow peppery overtones and the classic drier edge. Great structure and power carry through into the long, full finish.

Winery Information

The origins of Dow's lies not with anyone named Dow, but rather in a company founded by a Portuguese entrepreneur, Bruno da Silva, in 1798?

Published : 24-Oct-2006. Very dark – blackish crimson. Just 500 cases of this were produced. Spicy fruit with a bit of oak still obvious. Very dry and punchy – lovely structure. As though this had liquorice ribbons wound round its core of fruit. Great lift, and very dry on the finish. For the moment, much more structure than fruit. Lovely vibrancy. This should develop very well. A quinta they, regretfully, had to sell in the 1970s but managed to buy back in 1998. Very small property just opposite Vesuvio and now a key element in the Dow blend. PDS thinks you could slip this into any tasting of any great young reds and it would be outstanding. When to Drink : 2010 to 2018.
