Description

The Drouhin Family’s winemaking roots run deep, having taken hold in Burgundy’s best vineyards more than a century ago. Our Oregon estate was established in the late 1980s, but our winemaking roots were planted in Burgundy a century earlier, when Joseph Drouhin moved from Chablis to Beaune, and in 1880 founded Maison Joseph Drouhin.  He was succeeded by his son, the brilliant Maurice Drouhin, who dedicated his life to making fine wine.

Wine tasting notes

Subtle notes of rose petal, raspberry and dark cherries lead into layered flavors of sour cherries, cranberry, black tea, and plum. Although young, there is an extraordinary balance between the fine tannins and energizing lift of vibrant red fruit and acidity

Expert reviews

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2017) - 93 pts

Deep scarlet. Highly fragrant red and dark berries, baking spices, vanilla and candied flowers on the seductively perfumed nose. A smoky mineral accent adds definition and lift to sappy, alluringly sweet cherry cola, black raspberry and spicecake flavors that show very good depth and fine definition. Smooth and seamless in texture, finishing with impressive power, a hint of smokiness and discreet, well-knit tannins - Josh Raynolds

James Suckling (2017) - 94 pts

This is so delicious with very vibrant red cherries and a wealth of fresh red flowers and a reticent, spicy edge. The palate has a succulent, pure and very neatly defined feel with a long, chiseled core of fresh red cherries. So pure. Drink now.

Decanter (2017) - 92 pts

Even after 32 vintages at this domaine, Burgundian Véronique Drouhin is still in love with Oregon: ‘I feel like a Cistercian monk discovering the best terroirs.’ This entry-level bottling is always a reference, with bright, high-toned notes of currant and cranberry, firm tannins, fresh acidity and a pleasant weight and length. Very elegant, with a subtle flinty quality and a lovely roundness - Charles Curtis MW
