Wine tasting notes

It shows a bright ruby red colour with black undertones. Complex and elegant nose. For the first time, this blend has the contribution of Cabernet Franc, which adds to the more complex notes of the blend of gunpowder and pepper. In the mouth it is intense, round and with a mineral texture. High energy and exceptionally balanced finish.

Winery information

Vina Cobos

Californian trail-blazer Paul Hobbs visited Argentina in 1989 and fell in love with its terroir and culture. Vi̱a Cobos is the result of a shared dream between Paul and his winemaking partners - Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud.

Founded in 1997, Vi̱a Cobos utilises old vines, careful vineyard selection, low yields and an unerring empathy for raw materials. The result is a range of expressive, balanced, world-class wines with a true sense of place.

The inaugural 1999 vintage received the highest score to date for an Argentinean wine upon release. Subsequent releases earned 98 points from Wine Advocate magazine. The wines continue to earn outstanding plaudits from the world press.

Vi̱a Cobos has an extensive team of grape growers located in different outstanding winemaking regions in Mendoza. They work closely together and are committed to quality and a respect for the terroir.

Expert reviews

James Suckling (2017) - 100 pts

Extremely pure and aromatic with sandalwood, blackcurrant, fresh-mushroom and rose-petal character. Full body and an extremely compact center palate with profound tannins that are so polished, drawing you down and down into the wine. Goes on and on. Be patient. Drink after 2025. 2,200 bottles made.
