Wine tasting notes

Montes Alpha Malbec is a blend of 45% of Malbec from our Marchigue Estate and 45% of Malbec from our Apalta Estate. The remaining is a 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Apalta. The Apalta vineyards provide elegant, ripe fruit with soft, firm and fine tannins, while Marchigue brings cooler weather notes like violets and red fruits. In the mouth, tannins have a lush structure, robustness and freshness. The Cabernet Sauvignon helps us to bring additional structure and complexity to the natural sweetness and softness of the Malbec variety.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2011) - 87 pts

eRobertParker.com # 213. June 2014 Reviewer : Luis Gutierrez - TThe 2011 Montes Alpha Malbec is a well-oaked example of the grape, with aromas of violets and blueberries under a thick layer of vanilla, cinnamon and smoke, quite showy with a commercial profile and a dusty palate with abundant tannins that fill your mouth and call for powerful food. Drink now-2017.

JancisRobinson.com (2011) - 16 pts

Tasted December 2014 - Purple-tinged crimson. Violet perfume with a sooty bass note. Intense mulberry and blueberry sweetness with decisive acidity that lifts the fruit into freshness. Slightly inky, encased in tannins that somehow remind me of old ironmongery in both structure and flavour. A little dusty, but it does have immediate appeal. (TC)

Wine Spectator (2012) - 88 pts

Nov 15, 2014 - Juicy and muscular, with dashes of pepper to the red plum and dried berry flavors. Asian spice notes linger through the rich and full-bodied finish. Drink now through 2018.

James Suckling (2011) - 91 pts

A balanced malbec with dark fruit and fine tannins. Medium body, with fine tannins and a savory finish. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2011) - 89 pts

Broad, ripe berry aromas are dark and full on the nose. The palate is lively, with a shot of bracing acidity. Flavors of dark fruit, grilled meat, herb and salt finish briny, with a final wave of hard tannins. Drink through 2016. — M.S. (12/31/2014)
