Wine tasting notes

A selection from our best Cabernet vineyards blended with a small component of Petit Verdot for aromatic complexity, this is pinnacle of our viticulture and winemaking, displaying great fruit purity, texture and finesse. Carefully cellared, it will develop additional complexity. Aromas of dark berries, violets, dark chocolate, earth, cedar. The palate is complex, vibrant, fine, perfect balance and structure.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2014) - 94 pts

The current release (no 2015 was bottled), the 2014 MJW Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from the winery's Old Block (56%) and North Block (40%). That leaves room for 4% Petit Verdot. Cigar box and cassis aromas lead the way in this silky-smooth, medium to full-bodied offering. It finishes long and seductive, with lingering hints of cocoa powder. Drink it anytime over the next 15 years or so.

James Suckling (2014) - 91 pts

A very peppery and slightly herbaceous cabernet that shows red peppers, paprika and redcurrants. Nevertheless, it shows good poise and concentration, and the vibrant red fruit is wrapped in a sheen of firm tannins. A blend of 96% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot. Drink now.
