Wine tasting notes

Medium to deep red in colour the Yalumba Eden Valley Shiraz Viognier 2009 shows sweet, fresh and fragrant aromatics of red cherries and plums with a spice and clove complexity the complements the subtle perfumed floral hints of Viognier. On the palate the wine is rich and softly textured with characters of red fruits, fine spices and cloves, complemented by the subtle sweet presence of Viognier.

Winery Information

Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family owned winery founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, a British immigrant (he was a Master Brewer in England) and it is still owned by the Hill-Smith family today with their high reputation as an independent producer. Yalumba is an Aboriginal word for “all the land around”. The winery is situated in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, in a small town called Angaston - an hour north-east of Adelaide. The winery even has its own cooperage – the only one in Oz.. read more

Robust, rich and juicy, bursting with flavors of kirsch and framboise and aromas of toasted cumin and black tea. A note of savory shows on the herb-scented finish

Deep, lurid ruby. Ripe dark berries, cherry pit and a hint of licorice on the smoke-tinged nose and in the mouth. Shows good depth and gentle sweetness, and a spicy element adds back-end cut. Finishes with repeating smokiness, a hint of mocha and very good, gently tannic persistence. I like the blend of richness and energy here
