Wine tasting notes

The Yalumba Y Series Sauvignon Blanc exhibits classic aromas of the variety; freshly cut grass and guava, with hints of pineapple and lime. The crunchy fresh acidity cleanses the palate while layers of guava and tropical fruit give the wine balance and fineness. The Y Series Sauvignon Blanc is a wine of vibrancy and freshness, best served chilled.

Winery Information

Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family owned winery founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, a British immigrant (he was a Master Brewer in England) and it is still owned by the Hill-Smith family today with their high reputation as an independent producer. Yalumba is an Aboriginal word for “all the land around”. The winery is situated in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, in a small town called Angaston - an hour north-east of Adelaide. The winery even has its own cooperage – the only one in Oz.. read more

Jun 2016 - Reviewer : Lisa Perrotti-BrownThe 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Y Series delivers grassy, oregano and elderflower aromas with a lemon/lime core. Medium-bodied with plenty of expressive fruit favoring the herbal side of Sauvignon, it does a great job of working its crisp backbone yielding good length.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2016)87 pts

Pale yellow. Fresh citrus fruits and melon on the nose and palate, joined by a hint of peach pit as the wine opens up. Silky, broad and a bit warm, but shows good depth. Finishes with a lingering peach note and good cling, leaving an herbal note behind.

Wine Spectator (2014)87 pts

A sleek white, with a grassy note weaving through pear and floral flavors, lingering on the jazzy finish.

Wine Enthusiast (2016)89 pts

Yalumba generally offers fair value up and down its lineup, and this is a good example at the low end. Wet stone and lime aromas mark the nose, while the palate is pleasantly plump without being overly weighty. Pear and melon notes avoid the vegetal side of Sauvignon Blanc entirely. Drink now.

Vinification Notes

The Y Series Sauvignon Blanc receives 12 hours skin maceration prior to draining and pressing. Juices are cold settled then fermented cool using aromatic yeast to retain and enhance the fresh crisp varietal character. The wine is then left on light lees until blending in May of the same year.
