Stemming from the northern Rhône region, this Cornas boasts 100% Syrah grapes, delivering robust flavours. Renowned for its deep, dark hue, it offers an intoxicating blend of smoky blackberry and cherry elements, mingled with hints of mineral and spice. Impressively textured, savoury, and concentrated, it creates an unforgettable finish. An esteemed selection of a vineyard owned by Matthieu Barret, organically and biodynamically cultivated. A bottle of this luxurious wine is a marvellous embodiment of Rhône Valley wine-making tradition.

Tasting Notes

The 2015 ‘Billes Noires’ is an intense wine with aromas of black olive, ripe red fruits and fragrant Provençal herbs on the nose with an impressive concentration of fruit and mineral freshness on the palate.

About the Winery

Domaine du Coulet

Established within the shadows of the French hills, Domaine du Coulet is a majestic and highly acclaimed winery, nestled in the heart of the Rhône Valley. It is unquestionably amongst the standout producers in Cornas, a stalwart in the north of France's famous wine-producing region.

The winery is blessed with an unmistakably desirable terroir, composed of carefully tailored slopes and soil rich in minerals. This distinctive landscape provides the ideal platform for crafting wines that are not only exquisite but also carry the distinct character of Cornas. The vines are lovingly cultivated and managed adhering to biodynamic principles, allowing the vineyard to harness the full potential of its terroir.

Domaine du Coulet's winemaking practices are rooted in tradition, with a modern understanding of biodynamic principles. Their commitment to natural approaches extends into their cellar, where they use minimal intervention, resulting in wines that are magically pure, balanced, and expressive of their precise location.

The vineyard is scattered with hundred-year-old vines, aged like the precious antiques, adding depth and character to the wines. These old vine parcels are known to yield Syrah of remarkable intensity and complexity, a feature prominent in the domaine’s deeply flavoured and aromatically intricate wines.

With Matthieu Barret at the helm. Domaine du Coulet has seen a rejuvenation of their winemaking process, proving that their commitment to biodynamic practices goes far beyond mere innovation. Despite being relatively young, Barret brings a combination of modern science and ancient wisdom to the fore, transforming the vineyard into a beacon of sustainable wine production. Yet, his wines remain true to Cornas' rugged and earthbound character, crafting wines with impressively ripe fruit balanced by savoury depth.

Domaine du Coulet serves as a testament to the authentic taste and invaluable heritage of Cornas. It offers wines that are not just an indulgence for the palate, but a deeper exploration into the vibrant world of French viticulture.
