Product Notes

Sierra Cantabria Rioja Reserva Unica is an exquisite Spanish red wine that exudes elegance in every sip. Surfaced from the comforting soils of Rioja, it audaciously showcases luscious notes of blackberry, prunes, and cherry, supported by lingering nuances of spice. Aged gracefully in French and American oak casks, the wine possesses an invitingly lofty tannic structure and a balanced acidity, yielding a long, delightful finish. Both the nose and the palate experience an extraordinary complexity, making it an ideally harmonising match with roasted red meats and mature cheeses. A nicely-aged triumph that encapsulates the proud essence of Spanish viticulture.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, cherry and liquorice. It’s a quintessential modern Rioja with rich, plush blueberry and blackberry flavours, chalky acidity, stylish oak and violet aromas. Long and well balanced.

About the Winery

Sierra Cantabria

Located in Spain's famed Rioja region, the Sierra Cantabria winery is a striking balance of traditional winemaking heritage and innovative vinification techniques. Founded in 1870, this family-run winery has been meticulously crafting outstanding wines that distinctly express the nuances of the terroir.

Nestled amidst the westernmost region of Rioja Alavesa, the winery benefits from a confluence of Atlantic and Mediterranean climates. The Sierra Cantabria mountain range earns its name by providing a crucial barrier, shielding the vineyards from harsh northern winds, creating a microclimate that leads to incredible grapes. The vineyard soils are predominantly clayey-calcareous, spelling out superior mineral richness which imparts extraordinary character and complexity to the wines.

The winery is managed by the fifth generation of the Eguren family, whose passion for winemaking and respect for the land is evident in every bottle of wine produced. Their philosophy is centred on sustainable viticulture and they have made a firm commitment to avoid the use of insecticides and herbicides; an assurance that the integrity of the terroir will be preserved.

In terms of production, Sierra Cantabria mainly focus on a variety of Tempranillo, the iconic grape of the region. However, they also produce smaller quantities of exquisite Viura and Malvasia for their distinguished white wines. The winery’s collection is an excellent showcase of the various styles of Rioja, from Joven to Gran Reserva.

With an illustrious pedigree of numerous awards and accoldaes to their name, Sierra Cantabria is quite simply a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts. Every sip of their wines encapsulates the essence of meticulous winemaking and the blessed terroir it comes from. A tour of the winery offers visitors a fascinating insight into this legacy of vine growing and winemaking while offering a tantalising peek into the artistry and science of creating truly exceptional wines.

Experience the charm and beauty Sierra Cantabria and indulge in a wine tasting adventure that will surely linger in your memory. And maybe on your taste buds for a while to!
