Fraser Gallop is a sixty-seven hectare single estate in the Wilyabrup district of Margaret River. It was founded in 1998 by Nigel Gallop, and has since acquired an enviable reputation as a highly sought-after new address in the region. Early vintages were made off-site, but since 2008 the estate has benefitted from its own winery, built to the exact specification of award-winning (ex Vasse Felix) winemaker Clive Otto. This has led to even higher quality among this range of terroir-driven, food-oriented wines. The soils are rich, gravelly loams with clay sub-strata ? all the attributes necessary for an un-irrigated vineyard. All vines are dry grown from planting, cane pruned, low yielding, shoot thinned, leaf plucked, bunch thinned and hand picked. An intensive approach, but one that is reaping rewards. The winemaking philosophy at Fraser Gallop Estate is all about wine quality. The main aim is to preserve the fruit flavours in the grape as much as possible. This means minimal handling of the grapes and treating the grapes with ?kid gloves?. This includes hand-picking, gravity feeding the press and minimal pumping of the wine. It is paramount that the fruit?s qualities are showcased in the glass.
