Product Notes

Qupé Y Block Chardonnay is a charming, sophisticated Californian white wine. It emanates an elegant, lush bouquet of citrus and ripe apple, harmoniously intertwined with delicate hints of vanilla and honey. On the palate, it’s brilliantly crisp and balanced, showcasing layered, complex flavours alongside a sublime minerality. This medium-bodied Chardonnay culminates in a gratifying long finish, making it a versatile companion for various cuisines. Its refined character and subtle oak influence reflect the meticulous winemaking craft at Qupé, a winery highly praised for its commitment to sustainability and expressing terroir. A bottle truly evokes a memorable experience.

Tasting Notes

This is a classic cool climate Chardonnay made in a traditional style. Pale straw colour in the glass. Aromas of citrus, Anjou pears, baking spice, and flint waft from the glass. Mouth-coating viscosity on the palate balanced by naturally fresh, crisp acidity. Completely dry, this is an elegantly balanced and structured Chardonnay.

About the Winery

Qupé

Qupé Winery is a renowned Californian wine producer, known for its iteratively crafted and sustainably produced array of wines. Nestled in the Santa Maria Valley, the winery operates with a profound respect for the environment and a tireless quest for quality. The unique location of Qupé Winery, straddling the juxtaposition of cool-climate vineyards and a warm Mediterranean climate, bestows its wines with a depth and complexity that is markedly distinct.

The winery's history dates back to 1982, founded by wine pioneer Bob Lindquist who has been an influential figure in popularising Rhône varietals in California. Qupé (pronounced kyoo-pay) is named after the native Chumash Indian word for the Californian poppy, symbolising the connection the winery relentlessly seeks to foster with nature and history.

Audaciously innovative and progressive in the quality and character of its wine, Qupé Winery champions traditional winemaking techniques. Crafting elegant and balanced wines that truly reflect the grapes' terroir, with an emphasis on Syrah, their repertoire includes Grenache, Chardonnay, Viognier and Roussanne varieties.

Walking through Qupé’s vineyard offers an immersive experience into the world of Rhône varietals meticulously grown and harvested, under Bob Lindquist’s guiding philosophy of minimal intervention and reverence for the land. Endowed with an inviting tasting room, visitors are offered the opportunity to sample the winery's acclaimed varietals, whilst appreciating the picturesque backdrop of scenic vineyard landscapes.

Qupé Winery built its success firmly on a foundation of sustainability, ensuring that their farming practices are considerate of the environment, thereby enabling the vineyard and the natural surroundings to thrive in symbiosis. Their commitment to sustainable and biodynamic winemaking practices further underscores the brand’s narrative of shaping wines that are reflective of the region's native character:

In essence, Qupé Winery embodies a beautiful marriage of tradition, innovation and sustainability. Whether you are a wine aficionado or a casual enthusiast, the taste of Qupé wines promises to transport you to the heart of California’s wine country, where each bottle tells a unique story, echoing the land’s ethos and nuances.
