About the Winery

Alain Coudert - Clos de La Roilette

Located in the heart of Fleurie, in the Beaujolais region of France, Alain Coudert - Clos de La Roilette winery boasts a rich history and a tradition of exceptional winemaking. Commanding a sizeable 9 hectares, this vineyard is renowned for producing top notch Fleurie, one of the ten notable Beaujolais crus.

Alain Coudert, the man behind the magic, took the reins from his father Fernand in 1984 and has since proven that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Over the years, Alain has drawn upon the lessons of his father, coupled with his own innate flair, to produce wines that exude a kaleidoscope of vibrant flavours, complex bouquets and tantalising finishes. The distinct terroir, an amalgamation of clay and manganese consistently results in wines of exceptional character and calibre.

Alain Coudert – Clos de La Roilette is not merely a producer of Fleurie; they are a bastion of tradition. Adherence to traditional winemaking techniques ensures the wines retain their characteristic intensity and exquisite depth. Fermentation in large, old wooden vats and ageing in large neutral barrels works to accentuate the inherent properties of the Gamay grape, and the unique Fleurie terroir.

Despite the care and expertise invested into each bottle, Alain remains modest on his role: “All I do is bottle soil” he says. Perhaps that soil binds the essence of the Coudert family - the years of toil, the love for the craft, and the indomitable commitment to quality. As demand for Alain Coudert - Clos de La Roilette's wines increases globally, it's clear this small corner of Beaujolais is crafting wines that make a big, bold statement on the world stage.

Today the philosophy of Alain Coudert - Clos de La Roilette continues to be deeply grounded in the expression of 'terroir' and the wines they produce offer an intoxicating journey into the heart of Fleurie To experience a sip of Alain Coudert - Clos de La Roilette is to experience the living embodiment of Fleurie's viticultural excellence.
