Tasting Note

The colour is a delicate strawberry pink, with just a suggestion of bronze and onion skin. The bouquet springs from the glass, immediate and assertive, rich with sweet summer raspberry fruit and subtle autumnal blackberry. The blend’s high proportion of Pinot Meunier also gives the wine a heady note and savoury edge. The palate is finely knit and multi-layered after its extended ageing in bottle, and remains vivacious and intense, yet with a marine undertone.

Product Notes

Hambledon Vineyard's Première Cuvée Rosé is an elegant, sparkling wine with a captivating blush pink hue. This exquisite Hampshire rosé effervesces with a soft, restrained nose of fresh strawberries and French pastries. The sensual palate embraces ripe red fruits and brioche, with a sophisticated balance of minerality and acidity. Produced entirely from Pinot Noir using the traditional method, it shows an impressive finesse and complexity, evoking the terroir of England’s oldest commercial vineyard. Decidedly British in character, it is a superb choice for any celebratory occasion, infusing every toast with a breath of English countryside charm.

About the Winery

Hambledon Vineyard

Hambledon Vineyard is a quintessentially British winery, nestled in Hampshire's charming countryside. It holds the magnificent distinction of being England's oldest commercial vineyard, originally established in 1952 by the influential visionary Major General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones. Despite numerous changes in management, the vineyard's commitment to producing exquisite English wine has remained unwavering.

In 1999, the renowned vineyard was acquired by Ian Kellett, a wine passionate economist based in London. Upon realising the potential in Hambledon's chalky soils, similar to produce quality of that in France's Champagne region, Ian decided to completely modernise the vineyard with the aim of producing the finest English sparkling wine.

The present-day vineyard prides itself on crafting premium wines that express the unique terroir of the Hambledon slopes. Their portfolio consists primarily of sparkling wines; the Classic Cuvee, Classic Cuvee Rosé, and the Premier Cuvee. Each wine is a high-quality blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir grapes, which are grown, harvested, and produced on the estate. They also offer a limited edition, still white wine – the Hambledon Vineyard Bacchus which is becoming increasingly popular amongst wine connoisseurs.

Not only is the vineyard committed to producing excellent wines, but it also boasts an interactive visitor’s centre. Here, guests can immerse themselves in the intricate process of winemaking, the unique history of Hambledon, and—of course—indulge in wine tastings.

Hambledon Vineyard reflects the undeniable evolution of English winemaking, championing the industry's potential by persistently striving for quality, and carving out a reputable name on the international stage. It is a place where the love for the land, the passion for wine and the respect for tradition and innovation are blissfully intertwined.

Hambledon Vineyard summarises an important piece of English wine history and it's continuous journey of evolution and excellence.
