Product Notes

Babylonstoren Chardonnay is a remarkable embodiment of South African viticulture. Bright, golden in appearance, it possesses an incredibly vibrant palate - zesty layers of lemon and peach create a delightful symphony with subtle hints of buttery vanilla. Characterised by its lightly oaked texture, this wine displays an exceptional balance of acidity and fruitiness, providing a refreshing long finish. Babylonstoren Chardonnay is aged in French oak barrels, which contributes to the complex yet delicate flavour profile. It pairs perfectly with grilled seafood or white meat dishes, making it ideal for elegant dining experiences. Delightfully versatile, this is a Chardonnay fit for any occasion.

Babylonstoren

Babylonstoren is a majestic South African winery nestled within the Drakenstein Valley of the Western Cape. It's a gem, symbolising the essence of the Cape Dutch farm, and dates back to 1692; thus, it holds profound historical significance.

The establishment is currently owned by former magazine editor Karen Roos, known for her influential stint as co-editor of the globally celebrated Elle Decoration magazine. Sprawling across 200 hectares, Babylonstoren boasts a vibrant assortment of vineyards, orchards, and gardens. Visitors are encouraged to participate in activities like pruning, picking, planting, and savouring the plentiful fruits, herbs, and vegetables cultivated on the extensive grounds,. Here, simplicities and complexities coalesce harnessing a cultivation discipline passed down through the generations.

The winery is celebrated for its lush and diversified vineyards that produce a variety of wines. Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon are some of the fine varietals nurtured from these vineyards. Babylonstoren also has a vibrant distillery that produces a seductive range of liqueurs and spirits. Plus, the Babel restaurant set in the heart of the farm, offers a fine dining experience embedded in its organic and seasonal philosophy.

Sustainability is a driving force behind Babylonstoren’s approach with thoughtful practices such as utilizing worm farms and composting methods to enrich the soil, capitalising on solar energy for electricity, and employing rainwater harvesting and recycling systems.
