Tasting Note

A brilliant wine that's the finest young vintage I've tasted at this Saint-Julien estate, the 2022 Branaire-Ducru wafts from the glass with aromas of violets, blackberries, sweet cassis, licorice and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional palate that's succulent, sapid and perfumed, framed by supple tannins and concluding with a long, mouthwatering finish. - William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Product Notes

Château Branaire Ducru, a 4ème Cru Classé of Saint-Julien, accompanies a remarkable expression of Bordeaux's winemaking finesse. From the celebrated Left Bank, this wine showcases an enchanting bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and distinguished undertones of fine French oak. The palate is velvety, demonstrating a harmony of ripe, dark fruit tempered by well-integrated tannins and judicious ageing. Its renowned complexity and depth is testament to the winemaker’s meticulous attention to detail, prune technique and the region's gravel-rich terroir. Best savoured with quality red meats, it's a classy accompaniment for special occasions or simply to delight the discerning viticultural palate.

About the Winery

Château Branaire Ducru, nestled in the Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux, France, is a revered winery known for its distinctive, high-quality wines. Historically, Château Branaire Ducru was formed back in 1680 and has since been recognised for its commitment to championing the local terroir.

The vineyard eclipses a sprawling 50 hectares, each densely planted with predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, but with fair percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot too. The vineyard takes an innovative approach to its viticulture; utilising both traditional methods and modern techniques to ensure optimal diversity.

Château Branaire Ducru's signature wine is delineated by an enchanting nose of red and black fruit, characteristic of the classic Bordeaux blend, but with an oaky undertone signifying its time in French barrel. Paired with firm tannins and a full-bodied texture the result is a wine of excellent complexity and longevity: Champions, the ability to cellar for many decades.

Furthermore, they pride themselves on their eco-friendly approach, with considered vineyard management and a strive to minimise carbon emissions. The Château itself is a compelling amalgamation of history and charm, modernised too; for wine tastings, tours and of course, retail.

At Château Branaire Ducru, it's not just about producing great wines, but also ensuring an unwavering commitment to the environment. It's fair to say, the winery exemplifies the seamless blend of tradition and innovation in both its viticulture, and its approach to sustainability. Together, it forms an incredible wine tasting experience that harmonises both the past and the present.

Clearly. Château Branaire Ducru is yet another significant reminder of the remarkable quality of Bordeaux's wine region and a shining example of sustainability in the industry.
