Tasting Note

Bursting with aromas of blackberries, mint, violets and pencil shavings, the 2021 Alter Ego de Palmer is medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with impressive density and ripeness for the vintage, its deep core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannin. Like the grand vin, it's a very strong effort this year. - William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate 92/100

Product Notes

Château Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer is an exceptional French wine from the prestigious Bordeaux region. This full-bodied yet elegant wine achieves a harmonious blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. On the palate, expect an alluring medley of ripe blackcurrant, plum, and cocoa, underscored by hints of spice and floral tones. It has a distinct velvety finish, partly owing to the ageing process in oak barrels. This wine is often lauded for its superb complexity, robust structure, and excellent ageing potential. It is indeed, a wonderful expression of the Margaux appellation, making every sip a luxurious affair.

About the Winery

Château Palmer

Tucked away in the heart of Bordeaux, nestled between Margaux and Cantenac, lies Château Palmer, a winery that serves as a symbol of premium winemaking and history. This picturesque winery, named after Major General Charles Palmer, is a silent testament to the tradition of viniculture that dates back to the 18th century in this region.

Château Palmer’s distinguishing charm lies in its architecture – a harmonious blend of neo-classical and traditional Bordeaux styles. Its vast vineyards stretch across 66 hectares, predominantly planted with Merlot grape vines. The unique terroir, characterised by gravel-rich soil and a favourable microclimate, facilitates the growth of grape varieties that contribute to the fine quality of Château Palmer's signature wines.

The winery has a reputation for producing deeply coloured, aromatic wines with great depth and complexity - a result of rigorous selection processes, meticulous care, and a genuine respect for nature. With a majority of their vineyards classified as Grand Cru, Château Palmer is recognised for its wine range, which includes their esteemed Grand Vin and second wine, Alter Ego de Palmer.

In addition to winemaking, the château has ventured into sustainable viticulture. Practising organic and biodynamic agriculture, it has committed to preserving and enhancing the implications of multi biodiversity within their vineyards.

Visitors to Château Palmer are captivated by the tranquil environment, which transports one back to simpler times. The guided tours include a glimpse into the age-old art of winemaking, and tastings of their celebrated wines that truly encapsulate the distinct Bordeaux terroir.

However - despite belonging to one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world, the approach at Château Palmer remains humble and perfectly attuned to nature. Each bottle of wine is a narrative of the château’s history, their dedication to the craft and the region’s rich viticultural legacy. The essence of Château Palmer is captured in every sip; a true testament to the romantic blend of tradition and innovation.
