Tasting Note

Enjoyable in bottle, restrained and elegant with finesse and balance, impressive blackberry, loganberry, liqourice, cocoa bean, crayon and pencil lead, savoury and juicy. Pushing the extraction a little but it works because there is plenty of fruit underneath. 90% French oak barrels, 10% large oak casks for ageing. Can age, but has a suppleness that means I would not worry about waiting too long. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

About the Winery

Château Pape Clément

Deep in the heart of Bordeaux lays an undeniably prestigious winery, the Château Pape Clément. Known for its profoundly rich history, it is one of the oldest wine estates in France to exist for over seven centuries. The vineyard originated in the 13th century when it was gifted to Bertrand de Goth. On becoming Pope Clement V in 1306, he renamed the estate to honour his Papacy, hence “Pape Clément”.

Nested amidst the urban cityscape of Pessac, the 60-hectare vineyard stands regally against the test of time. Boasting exquisite vineyards that are populated with grapes well-known for their unique quality and flavour. The winery produces a diverse range of award-winning red and white wines, the best known being the elegantly powerful Pessac-Léognan.

The microclimate and the gravelly, sandy soils in which the vines flourish, supplemented by meticulous vine management, ensures the creation of quality grapes each year. Harvesting is carried out manually with a selection process so rigorous that only the ripest, healthiest grapes are chosen.

The Château is not merely about the wine making. It is a site that holds a historical grandeur within its very walls. The ornate buildings reflect classic French architecture of the 13th century;, their stone arched doorways and quaint tiled roofs adding to its charm.

Coerced into the world of luxury, Château Pape Clément offers a wonderful blend of vinous delight and cultural wonder. From tastings in the historic cellars, vineyard tours to the exclusivity of the chance to blend your wine the visits are tailored to accommodate wine enthusiasts worldwide.

Beholding magnificent views, fine wines, sumptuous meals and a blend of history, the Château Pape Clément winery offers an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Venture into this vine-clad oasis to savour the ultimate in French viticulture and hospitality.
