Product Notes

Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spätlese wine emanates from Germany's iconic Saar region, renowned for exceptional Rieslings. This late-harvest gem spotlights a harmonious blend of sweetness and acidity that dances delightfully on the palate. Its nose teases with seductive notes of ripe orchard fruits, balanced exquisitely with mineral undertones. A remarkable gustatory experience awaits with each sip, introducing one to an enchanting bouquet of citrus and apple flavours infused with a whisper of honey. Elegant with a lingering finish, this Spätlese is a testament to Zilliken's mastery of winemaking, symbolising a masterstroke in the art of crafting captivating Riesling wines.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, this Spätlese enchants with its stony and smoky notes, encircled by vineyard peach and juicy, dried apricot as well as delicate floral nuances of white lilac. It is incredibly dense on the palate, with the stimulating taste of white peach. The play of aromas of raspberry leaves and spearmint is particularly exciting. We attest great storage potential and look forward to a long journey with this fine specimen.

About the Winery

Zilliken

Zilliken winery, nestled in the heartland of Germany's prestigious Moselle wine region, is a beacon for wine connoisseurs across the world, boasting a rich history that spans over two centuries and is deeply interwoven with the geographical and cultural fabric of the region.

The winery's genesis dates back to 1742. Despite its rich legacy, Zilliken's approach to winemaking is quite the amalgamation of tradition and innovation. Pioneering viticulture methods are seamlessly merged with time-honoured techniques, thus ensuring that each bottle is an embodiment of the vineyards' distinctive character, paired with the quintessential element of finesse.

At the heart of Zilliken winery lies a deep commitment towards environmental sustainability. It's renowned for practicing organic viticulture, with labour-intensive processes in place to cultivate high-quality vines.. Pesticides and chemical fertilisers are also a strict no-no, making each sip of Zilliken's vino an encounter with nature's purest bounty.

Stretching over a vast twenty hectares, Zilliken exclusively cultivates Riesling, the noblest of white wine varieties. The winery's terroir imbues the Riesling grapes with a unique minerality, providing subtle hints of grapefruit and quince. This fine interplay culminates in Zilliken's collection of exceptional wines, ranging from the wildly popular dry and off-dry variants to the much-coveted dessert and sparkling styles.

Although a brief encounter with corporate life, in 2016 Zilliken was purchased by prominent winemaker Roman Niewodniczanski. It continues to enchant wine aficionados today, capturing the soul of Saar and Mosel cultures and delivering it to wine lovers across the globe. It's the liquid protagonist that effortlessly steals the limelight in any tasting experience, transcending the barriers of geography and time.

A visit to Zilliken winery is not just about sampling fine wines, it's about immersing oneself in the history, tradition and ethos of an exceptional wine-growing region. So raise your glasses, it's time to toast to Zilliken and its phenomenal contribution to the wine world.
