The intrinsic Sauvignon Blanc characteristics of green pepper, asparagus and gooseberry, with underlying tones of pineapple and passion fruit, are sustained on a fresh, crispy and well-balanced palate with prodigious length.

Winery Information

Rustenberg

A prestigious family owned winery near the town of Stellenbosch, Rustenberg has invested heavily in recent years; overhauling the cellar and building a new, inviting tasting room. The farm has a long pedigree, having been established in 1683 as a Dutch homestead. eRobertParker.com. Aug 2011. Reviewer : Neal Martin. The 2014 Sauvignon Blanc is all Stellenbosch fruit that sees no oak contact, with just 2½ months lees-aging. It has a crisp citrus lemon, tropical-tinged bouquet that is well defined. The palate is light on the entry with green apple and a touch of nettle, the acidity well judged with a nicely poised, straightforward finish. Enjoy over the next couple of years.

June '15 by Stephen Tanzer - Very pale straw-yellow. Lemon zest, anise and a hint of white peach on the nose. Enticing stone fruit flavors show a pliant texture and excellent intensity. Rustenberg did not have a single Sauvignon Blanc vine 11 years ago but now produces 100,000. Simon Barlow described it as the estate's fastest-growing wine.-- Stephen Tanzer

Tasted Oct 2015 - Cool, stony and fresh. Completely dry, restrained and suitable for the table as well as on its own. Subtle but persistent with the Sauvignon Blanc character definite but not excessively pungent. (JH)

Web Only 2015 - Pure, with a focused beam of lime, lemon and white asparagus notes racing through the floral-edged finish. Drink now.

The brisk finish lifts the round mouthfeel of this ripe Sauv Blanc, as flavors of ripe gooseberry and green fig are perfectly poised against a backdrop of sweet grass and a touch of chamomile. Refreshing and satisfying all at once; drink now and through 2012. — L.B. (11/1/2011)

John Platter (2014)3.5 stars

Two vintages tasted: 2014 clean fruited & tropical but unremarkable, best enjoyed ice-cold; pineapple & gooseberry toned 2015 livelier, has bit more to say, crisp & refreshing.

Vinification Notes

Grapes were reductively crushed and pressed with no additional skin contact to minimize phenol content. Free-run juice and the best of gently pressed juice were cold settled for 24 - 48 hours. The clear juice was then racked and inoculated with different yeast strains for different terroir parcels, and fermeneted at 11 - 15°C. After 2 - 3 months maturation on lees, the different components were blended, stabilized and bottled at the end of July 2010.
