About the Winery

Churchill's

Situated in the sun-drenched hills of Portugal's Douro Valley, Churchill's Winery is an enchanting destination for wine aficionados worldwide. Combining traditional winemaking practices with innovative techniques, Churchill's produces an extraordinary range of distinctively robust and characterful ports and Douro wines.

Established in 1981 by John Graham and his wife Caroline Churchill, the winery retains a strong emphasis on the artisanal aspects of winemaking. Uniquely, all of Churchill’s Ports and Douro wines are made exclusively from Grade A grapes grown in the picturesque terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley. The wonderous mosaic of old vines, many exceeding 50 years of age, bestows the wine with an extraordinary flavour and complexity unrivalled elsewhere.

The longevity of these old vines, combined with the intense sunlight and the unique Douro Valley terroir, imparts a depth of flavour and a freshness in the wines that is the trademark of Churchill's. It is well plated in the winery’s philosophy, which centres around the production of authentic, high-quality wines that exhibit the unique character of their vineyards. The meticulous attention to detail in each step of the winemaking process, from harvest to production, demonstrates the winery's commitment to authentic craftsmanship.

Inside the winery, visitors can journey through the winemaking process while savouring the heady aromas of aged wine and oak barrels. There is an authentic intimacy here, paired with the robust elegance of the woody, systematized barrels. A guided tour of Churchill's Winery is not merely an auditory expedition, but an exploration of all five senses, assuring an unforgettable experience.

There is no question that Churchill's Winery, with its blend of tradition and innovation, plays a crucial role in the world of wine – one that continues to grow year on year. And the fine wines they bring to life, these are the living testament, to the passion, commitment and of corse, the genius behind the Churchill's label.
