Wine tasting notes

Deep, dark cherry red colour with touches of brick red. Aromas of spicy oak, as well as mature black and red fruit; plum, cherry and damson. Some balsamic and eucalyptus notes. Good balance between the aromas from the extended maturation and the mature fruit. This wine has intensity and balance, soft, round tannins, and a long finish with hints of toast and liquorice.

April 2015 - Luis Gutierrez - A clear step up in freshness and balance from the 2011 Crianza is the 2008 Reserva, an assemblage of Tempranillo with 10% Graciano that shows some flower aromas and ripe red and blue fruit fused with spicy aromas from the ?levage. The palate is very harmonious with fully resolved tannins and good acidity resulting in a pleasant and tasty finish

Nov '15 - Josh Raynolds - Bright ruby. Aromas of cherry, redcurrant and vanilla, with a spicy nuance that builds in the glass. Supple and seamless on the palate, offering sweet red fruit flavors that deepen and pick up a smoky quality on the back half. Clings with very good tenacity on the subtly tannic finish, with the spice and vanilla notes echoing. This wine was aged in a combination of new and used American and French oak barrels.

This dense red delivers a mouthful of flavor, with rich notes of plum pudding, baking spices, coffee and toasty vanilla. The full, plush texture is supported by well-integrated tannins and just enough acidity to stay fresh. A modern style.

Rooty, leathery and spicy aromas accent dry baked-berry notes. The feel is smooth and natural, with texture and acidity supporting toasty, leathery, spicy berry and plum flavors. Mildly baked tasting on the finish, with cinnamon and pepper accents. Drink now through 2014. — M.S. (4/1/2012)

Vinification Notes

Picked by hand, in small 10kg cases to avoid crushing the grapes and to ensure the quality and integrity of the fruit as it is transported to the winery. Aged in 50% new oak barrels, and 50% second use barrels, for 24 months, and then a further 4 months in larger oak vats. The wine spent a further 24 months ageing in bottle before release.
