Product Notes

Clau de Nell Chenin Blanc offers a unique example of the Val de Loire's prestigious wine category. Its crystal-clear golden hue is aesthetically pleasing while its palate is an exquisite blend of orchard fruits and complex minerality. Nuances of pear, apple and citrus notes intermingle with subtle hints of honey and flint for a refreshing finish. The wine's balanced acidity makes it incredibly versatile for pairing. Crafted organically and biodynamically, this vintage embodies a commitment to sustainable viticulture. For those seeking an elegant yet vibrant white, Clau de Nell Chenin Blanc is an ideal selection.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, this wine has aromas of green apple, pear and floral notes. On the palate, it is linear, with racy acidity and pure, expressive fruit flavours. It is ready to drink now but has excellent structure so it will continue to develop well in bottle over the next few years.

About the Winery

Clau de Nell

Tucked away in the heart of the Loire Valley, France is a timeless wine haven known as Clau de Nell. This vinery boasts of vineyards spanning an impressive 10 hectares, laced with a blend of biodynamic viniculture techniques and traditional savoir-faire.

Clau de Nell was established by the late Anne-Claude Leflaive and her husband, Christian Jacques. In 2008, their shared passion for viticulture prompted their acquisition of this winery. Their focus was to cultivate bio-dynamically and ferments without additives, drawing out the most authentic taste from their grapes.

This phenomenal French winery focuses on producing wines of an exemplary standard, with each bottle carrying the distinct taste and aroma of the Loire Valley’s terroir. Their list of wines includes subtle yet delectable reds such as Grolleau and Cabernet Franc, as well as a delightful white, the Chenin Blanc.

In 2016, the reins of Clau de Nell were passed onto Sylvain Potin. Potin continued Leflaive's legacy in organic and biodynamic winemaking; each vine is hand-tended with discernible passion and sterling workmanship. He nurtures the vineyard as one would a garden - meticulously and with absolute devotion.

The soils of Clau de Nell are exotically mixed, composed of flint, purple shales, clay, and quartz. Each grape thrives in these splendid conditions, absorbing rich nutrients that influence the wine's unique character.

The winery's practices in biodynamics and minimal intervention result in wines that are nothing short of miraculous - a vibrant spectrum of flavours that articulate the beauty of their origins. Each bottle tells an intimate story of the soil it came from, and the dedicated hands that brought it to life.

The Clau de Nell winery is a place where wine, nature and craftsmanship converge to create something truly sublime, a symphony of natural beauty reflected in every bottle bearing its name. It isn't merely a winery. It's a testament to the timeless French tradition of winemaking. Indeed, a visit to Clau to Nell is no less than a voyage into the soul of French viticulture.
