Tasting Note

Deep ruby red in colour, with an expressive nose of ripe red and dark berries, subtle herbs and warm spice. The palate is rich and concentrated yet remarkably silky, combining intense, mature fruit with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Layers of black cherry, raspberry and gentle spice develop across the palate, leading to a long, refined finish with a delicate mineral character. A distinctive and sophisticated expression of old-vine Gamay, showing both power and elegance.

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu's Beaujolais Villages Le Rang du Merle is a French delight of the highest calibre. Born from the Gamay grape varietal, it presents a pleasing ruby hue with delightfully expressive earthy notes on the nose. Once sipped, one is treated to a galore of ripe red fruits accented with sweet spices and faint traces of minerality. About the Winery

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu

Domaine Jean-Claude Lapalu is based in Saint-Étienne-la-Varenne, in the southern Beaujolais, close to Mont Brouilly and within the Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly and Beaujolais-Villages appellations. The domaine covers around 12 hectares, predominantly planted with Gamay on the region’s characteristic granite soils. Many of the vines are old, with a significant proportion around 60–80 years old.
