Product Notes

El Escoces Volante El Cismático is an exquisitely grand wine hailing from Spain. Displaying deep, thought-provoking complexity, this rich, full-bodied choice evokes an exciting mix of ripe black fruits, pepper and savoury elements, all tied together with a smoky wood note. It is lush and velvety on the palate, boasting powerful tannins and long-lasting, sumptuous finish. Made predominantly from old vine Garnacha, this marvellous creation by Scottish winemaker Norrel Robertson is a testament to his skills and the gorgeous terroir of the Aragon region. El Cismático delivers not just a wine, but a truly immersive epicurean experience. Ideal to pair with robust and hearty dishes.

Tasting Notes

Intense ruby red in colour, the nose is still very youthful, deep and complex with constantly evolving aromas: from wild red fruits, beets, dried orange peel and a light touch of mountain herbs as the wine opens up. Fine tannins, nuanced, slightly lighter and fresher than previous years.

About the Winery

Located in the heart of Spain's Aragón region is El Escocés Volante, a winery of distinguished reputation, managed by Master of Wine, Norrel Robertson. Originally from Scotland, Robertson moved to Spain in 2003, and has since carved his niche as a leading viticulturist in the Spanish wine industry. His unique winemaking approach has earned him the moniker "the flying Scotsman.", which translates to El Escocés Volante in Spanish.

This boutique winery garners attention for its combination of traditional Spanish winemaking methods with a modern, experimental approach. Nestled amidst rolling hills and arid landscapes of Calatayud, the winery boasts of old vine Garnacha and Syrah bush vines that are aged between 60 and 100 years. These vines yield a low output of concentrated and intensely flavoured grapes, adding depth and complexity to the wines.

At El Escocés Volante, the emphasis isn't just on the end product, but on the journey to creating flavourful wines. Each vine is nurtured carefully and the grapes harvested by hand, It's a classic, artisanal approach that sets them apart from their contemporaries.

The wines from El Escocés Volante are distinct, reflecting the area's unique terroir. They're lauded for their expressive nature and diversity of flavour profiles. The most popular among them being: 'Manga del Brujo', a well-rounded blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Tempranillo and 'El Puno', the winery's flagship wine, characterized by its elegance, depth, and finesse.

Ultimately, El Escocés Volante offers an enchanting Spanish wine experience. It resonates with a passion for wine making, a dedication to savouring flavour, and a commitment to sustainable practices that recognises the significance of the terreir from which the vines grow. It's a journey that's captured in every bottle of El Escocés Volante's unique and soulful wines.
